I wonder if he was taunting it? They are just too docile to care from what I have always understood about them. He survived so maybe learned the lesson about not pulling out the barb yourself.

Do you still dive yea baby? I've always wanted to learn how but never persued it. Of course you actually have to go somewhere in order to enjoy it, diving in the swiming pool would get old after about the third expedition. lol

Don't you have to be a little on edge anyway to actually work underwater?
It's gotta be really good $$$.

Stupid Criminal Watch

This one happened just down the road from me about a week ago.

Police Find Burgers Sprinkled With Pot

I mean, really, how stupid can you be? Well, they did (emphasis on DID) work at Burger King.

Good one Labbie.

Their research has earned them an Ig Nobel, the annual award given at Harvard University by Annals of Improbable Research magazine for weird, whacky and sometimes worthless scientific research.

Below is the list of the 2006 winners

Ornithology - The late Philip R.A. May and Ivan R. Schwab for exploring and explaining why woodpeckers don't get headaches.
So it's not because they constantly eat headache pills?

Nutrition - Wasmia Al-Houty and Faten Al-Mussalam, for showing that dung beetles are finicky about the dung.
I always thought crap was crap

Peace - Howard Stapleton, for inventing a teenager repellent, an electronic device that makes annoying noise designed to be audible to teenagers but not adults. The same technology is used to make telephone ringtones audible to teens, but not teachers.
Constantly playing old Yes albums would probably have the same effect at repelling teens

Acoustics - D. Lynn Halpern, Randolph Blake and James Hillenbrand for their experiments to learn why people dislike the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard.
Many volunteers refused to take part once they learned what they were being asked to do. Really? They'd have to strap me down to get me to particiape

Mathematics - Nic Svenson and Piers Barnes, for calculating the number of photographs you must take to ensure that nobody in a group photo will have their eyes closed.
One of these days I'm going to get a government grant to prove that breathing kills you

Literature - Daniel Oppenheimer, for his report "Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly."
His entire acceptance speech: "My research shows that conciseness is interpreted as intelligence. So, thank you."

Medicine - Francis M. Fesmire, for his medical case report "Termination of Intractable Hiccups with Digital Rectal Massage"; and Majed Odeh, Harry Bassan, and Arie Oliven for their subsequent medical case report.
They found that as a last resort an effective remedy is a "digital rectal massage." - Yeah, it would be MY last resort

Physics - Basile Audoly and Sebastien Neukirch, for their insights into why dry spaghetti often breaks into more than two pieces when bent.
I always hated chasing those last little pieces around the plate

Chemistry - Antonio Mulet, Jose Javier Benedito, Jose Bon and Carmen Rossello, for their study "Ultrasonic Velocity in Cheddar Cheese as Affected by Temperature."
How sound travels thru cheddar cheese - just who is using it for earplugs?

Biology - Bart Knols and Ruurd de Jong, for showing that female malaria mosquitoes are attracted equally to the smell of Limburger cheese and to the smell of human feet.
Just wash your feet, dammit

And we'll triple up today, three stories for the price of one....

Up near KM:
Man in erotic pursuit of mannequins arrested
KM, please tell us you don't live in Ferndale!!!!

And, just up the road from DWW:
Prosecutors won't seek charges in Billy the Kid case
And why not just dig up the "real" Billy the Kid's grave? It's encased in concrete.

Finally, way out in yea baby's neck of the woods:
Wild bear attacks racehorses
I guess wild as opposed to tame?

I've actually been following the Billy the Kid thingy for a while, it's intresting stuff. Wonder if they will ever be able to prove any of it.

They got tough horses over the big pond i think.

We get bear reports all the time where I live. In fact, you can be arrested for "baiting" bears to bring them down out of the mountains. They come down enough on their own.

It's the mountain lions we worry about. We had one killed about 2 miles from my house last year.

TL, this could be you if you keep going with your Type-A tendencies:
Angry Shopkeeper

And yes, she failed the test. Deservedly so.

Driving Test Comes to Crashing Halt

And from the "Only in Arkansas" department:

Police find naked man stuck in window

Quote:
Reed told police that he was forced at gunpoint to break into the apartment by a subject he only knew by his first name.

And that man's name? Billy Bob. Police have no leads, as there are too many Billy Bobs.

No, that won't be me; because, (as part of the ADD, Clinical Depression, and PTSD with Anger Issues... ), I'm already voluntarily in counselling... Things are going well with counselling. So; while I am Type-A and have "Perfectionistic Tendencies", I will not get to the point where that Shop Keeper got to... Thankfully. Plus, I still have a good sense of humor.

<Chief Inspector Dreyfus voice on: > "Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better... Only one man could pull the wrong tooth; (AH HA HA HA), it's Clouseau!!! KILL HIM!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"

It's Tuesday, so SETI must be down. Time to scrounge the internet for the Strange news of the day.

From the "Please Send Me Back to Prison" or "Only in San Francisco" notebook: Naked Man Arrested for Concealed Weapon
And yes, there is only one place to conceal a weapon on a naked man. UGH!!!

From the "What in the Hell Was He Doing With Those Anyway" department, Truck Spills 2 Tons of Pig's Heads on Road
Pork rinds, food of the gods

From the "Animals are Fighting Back" newsroom, no not another Stingray, but Letter Carrier Attacked By Squirrel
Quote from story: "In about 230 years of postal history, I bet it is not the first, but I've personally never heard of another squirrel biting".

And from the "Drivers Can Be Crazy" department (like we need examples), Geriatric German Lady Causes Motorway Havoc.
Just a warning to those that live in winter resort areas, The Snowbirds Are Coming, The Snowbirds Are Coming!!!!

And finally, no, not the "Stupid Criminal Watch", but the "Stupid Cops Get Equal Time" department, Kentucky Officer Shoots Himself While Driving
And he's been legally carrying a gun for 10 years!!!

And I didn't even have to stoop to silly election news, like the precinct here in Albuquerque that ran out of ballots after only being open for 2 hours this morning. :smt046

Ah, Coyote, the god of mischief

Coyote strolls into downtown Quiznos

That's actually a pretty good looking coyote. We only have scrawny, mangy looking ones around here.

Eh, stick with Rabbit KM it's better and cheaper.

What's disapearing around here is the Road Runner seems I haven't seen one in ages. Coyotes on the other hand still trott through town quite often and the ones you see are those you have to suspect of Rabies, walk the other way.

We got all the roadrunners you could want over here, it is our state bird after all. You've just got too much city around you now. When I lived at the south edge of Phoenix (literally, west of I-10 and Chandler Blvd) a few years ago, I saw a few, but not as many as I see in Albuquerque.

I saw three together last week at the northern edge of the University of New Mexico's campus, which is practically downtown Albuquerque.

They had to shoot a mountain lion (it was too smart to be captured and was attacking livestock) a couple of years ago about 3 miles from my house and you can hear packs of coyotes at night in the summer not too far away.

Bears (usually Black Bears) routinely come several miles into Albuquerque each year.

Your right Labbie I'm just too far in town period and I miss those quiet evenings on the farm from my youth not to mention the privacy. Bears... none here in the valley for sure, it's just too dang hot for them.
